Grimes takes top honors at 2009 National Junior Angus Show

Lindsey Grimes, Hillsboro, Ohio, was recently named Top Showman at the 43rd National Junior Angus Showmanship Contest, held in Perry, Georgia. After qualifying at the state level, Grimes was able to advance to the nationals, where she went through four preliminary rounds before making it to the final competition.

Going up against fourteen highly-qualified individuals, Grimes dazzled the panel of judges with her showmanship abilities and achieved a lifelong goal by being named the winner. Grimes FamilyThe panel consisted of three top showmen who evaluated the contestants. Exhibitors were provided animals through random selection and evaluated on their skill, ability to follow instructions, use of equipment, courtesy, and general appearance. Youth are only able to participate once in this prestigious showmanship competition, which is sponsored by the American Angus Association, American Angus Auxiliary, Ham James Memorial Fund, and Andis Clippers.

Grimes received the Dean Hurlbut Award, a silver Revere bowl, and a monetary award provided by the Ham James Memorial Fund.

Grimes has had much success in her show career. She has been named Champion Senior Showman in the Ohio Cattleman’s Association (OCA) BEST program for two of the past three years, as well as being the Champion Overall Showman at the 2005 Atlantic National Junior Angus Show in Baltimore, MD. Outside of the show ring, Grimes serves as the Vice President of the Ohio Junior Angus Association as well as a junior member of the OCA BEST committee. She recently graduated from Hillsboro High School and will be a freshman this fall quarter at The Ohio State University where she will study animal science and continue to develop her passion for animal agriculture.

Lindsey is the daughter of John and Joanie Grimes of Hillsboro, Ohio, who own and operate Maplecrest Farms. Maplecrest Farms is a showcase herd for Select Sires genetics and a popular destination for producers to see Select Sires genetics at work.
